Welcome to the website of the
National Association of Leavitt Families

"If your name is Leavitt or one of your ancestors was named Leavitt, you are very probably a descendant of John Leavitt of Hingham or Thomas Leavitt of Hampton"

Who are we?

Site Navigation

The National Association of Leavitt Families, Inc. is an organization formed in 1934 with the objective of promoting acquaintance and good fellowship among the living descendants of immigrant John Leavitt, who settled in the section of the New England Colonies now known as Hingham MA in 1636; and immigrant Thomas Leavitt, who settled in the section now known as Hampton NH in 1639; and to establish such memorials to their name and memory as may be most appropriate.  Please JOIN US for the newsletters and extra web offerings.

Website Updates

December 2025: This is a NEW WEBSITE! The previous website (nalfinc.org) was unable to be updated or maintained, and we are in the process of restoring what we can. Please be patient in the development of this new nalf.net website. Many links are not activated yet.  Check back every few weeks for updates.

Previous updates to website which we are trying to restore:
Fall 2016: LEAVITT LEAVES GOES DIGITAL PAPERLESS, or VIA FIRST CLASS MAIL
Paypal & PDF color-Newsletter option - SAMPLE NEWSLETTER ON MEMBERSHIP PAGE
2017 - We upgraded our site to a paid plan and our pages identify by our secure domain  https://www.NALFinc.org with the www.  or simply NALFinc.org which opens as secure. Member-password research page added.   Leavitt DNA page created.
2019 - More Leavitt Bible records are added in the Members Section 2.
Hingham Centre Cemetery and Hingham Cemetery now have all the Leavitt gravestone photos posted that we have.  Click on Mass cemeteries, and Plymouth county.  Many Maine gravestones also posted.
MAY 2021 - We found more Newsletter PDF issues back to 2010, now posted on our Newsletter members page.
JULY 2024 - Our Man of Many Hats, John Stephen Dow, age 55, unexpectedly passes away with organ failure.  One or more of the tick-borne diseases seem to be the culprit. See page ...
SCHOLARSHIPS -  2024 Recipient was announced in June, and on the webpage, and will be in the Summer Leavitt Leaves.
MARCH 1, 2025 - SCHOLARSHIP AWARD INCREASED TO $3000.
AUGUST 2024 - NALF holds a very productive Board Meeting of officers, and continuing every 2-3 months.  We elected a new President, and now have more people taking up the overload.
MARCH 21, 2025 - LEAVITT LEAVES Winter 2025 is now posted in the members only section (Password provided by email to paid-up and Life members).

The Genealogist's Page is updated quarterly with progress reports of how many people have been computerized in each branch.   We are now over 84,000 people recorded in our Genealogy databases!  The Nehemiah, Thomas, and Israel Leavitt branches are now over 16,000 people, and Moses over 18,000.
Our Cousins Chart is updated regularly.  Also on our Genealogist's webpage.  [This chart also seems a victim of gremlins.] An alphabetical list by ancestry so you can easily find your closest cousins.  If you are a NALF Member and aren't on here yet, Email Roland with your lineage.

Please use our Drop-Down menus above for additional pages on membership, Members-only page, publications, store, DNA research, and in progress, past reunions and Leavitt gravestones.
